Episode 2 - Telegraph
200 years ago it took days or even weeks to get a message from one city to another now it is a matter of picking up the phone. In this show (acctually the first one uploaded but the second we recorded due to technical problems) we look at the first part of the transition. We start with dispatch riders, semaphore and the invention and popularization of electrical telegraph. We also touch a few of the more offbeat communication ideas which never went very far.

Episode 1 - The Crystal Palace
In 1851 the “Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations” was held in Hyde Park in London. It was the largest exhibition of its kind at the time and became known as the first worlds fair. The Royal Commission for the 1851 asked landscape gardener to design a building suitable for the exhibition. The resulting building was christened “The Crystal Palace” by punch magazine. For tales of sparrowhawks, Charlotte Bronte, anatomically inaccurate dinosaurs and Charles de Laet Waldo Sibthorp give our first podcast a listen.
